We use the following emulators to allow our students to
play classic games as a form of domain analysis:
- MAME - the Multiple Arcade Machine
Emulator. MAME is one of the most mature emulator
projects, having existed since early 1997. It
primarily emulates arcade cabinets, with the goal of
emulating the hardware as precisely as possible
(effectively documenting the hardware). Ports of MAME
exist for all major current operating systems, and
many minor or non-current ones.
- VICE - the Versatile Commodore
Emulator. VICE is an emulator for all of Commodore’s
8-bit computers, though we primarily use it to emulate
the Commodore 64. Ports of VICE exist for all major
current operating systems, and many minor or
non-current ones.
